Dutch Politics [Nederlandse Politiek]

The course Dutch Politics offers a first, academic-level introduction to political science through a political system that is likely already somewhat familiar to many students: that of the Netherlands. Topics covered include democracy, state formation, pillarization and depillarization, political currents and political parties, electoral systems and voting behavior, cabinet formation, constitutional reform, government and parliament, political participation, interest groups, the relationship between politics and the judiciary, media, public policy, and Dutch politics at the municipal, provincial, and European levels.
In Dutch Politics, these aspects of the Dutch political system are addressed primarily on the basis of a textbook in a series of lectures, drawing where possible on current events and examples and, where relevant, on theory and/or comparisons with other political systems.
