Dutch Parliamentary Study
For the 2025 Parliamentary Survey, all members of the Senate and House of Representatives were invited to participate in an interview about their own performance and the functioning of parliament.
The Parliamentary Survey makes an important contribution to our knowledge about the functioning of the Dutch Parliament. Both the opportunity to analyse developments over the past decades and the possibility of international comparison through similar surveys in 14 other countries in 2025 contribute to this.
The data collected provides valuable insights for academics, policymakers and historians and contributes to a better understanding of our parliamentary system. The eighth Parliamentary Survey not only maps the functioning of the current parliament, but also contributes to parliamentary historiography.
The Parliamentary Study is therefore a particularly rich source of information for anyone interested in the functioning and development of the Dutch parliament, both past and present.
The most recent Parliamentary Study was conducted in 2025, with a full report forthcoming in 2026. Earlier editions were conducted by various political scientists, notably Prof. Rudy Andeweg and Prof. Jacques Thomassen, in 2017, 2006, 2001, 1990, 1979, 1972 and 1968.
The 2025 edition of the Dutch Parliamentary Study was funded by the Incentive Grants (Stimuleringsbeurzen) scheme of the Dutch government and universities. This was a joint project with Dr. Cynthia van Vonno and Prof. dr. Joop van Holsteyn. Rick van Well was a researcher on the project and coordinated the data collection.
